CLARKSVILLE — Mr. Oliver Anthony “O. A.” Morea, 88, passed away at his home on February 28, 2012. He was born in Craigsville, Va. on November 8, 1923 to the late Anthony and Ketty Pannell Morea. He served his country during World War II. Services are private.

According to his good friend, Chuck Cuneo who said, "OA gave up his job running Dolls & Guys Billiard, NE downtown Roanoke and his apartment on 1020 13th St. SE which he has work and lived there the past 25 years of his life and decided to move to Clarksville, VA."  He moved in with the Cuneos for two months since living alone, limited income, getting old, and no family to speak of, was a better option that a rest home." OA also enjoyed playing checkers with Chuck's brother Robert. Chuck said, "OA was adroit in cards, dice, checkers, and especially billiards, and for many years a world class player. Survived by his 93 years old sister, Alice Fox of Craigsville, VA. The Cuneo family used Watkins-Cooper-Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, VA for cremation services.  

“O.A.” Morea was a strong Master from Roanoke and regularly played in the Old Dominion Checker Association Virginia State Tournaments in the '90s and placed second under Alex Moiseyev in 1999 at the 82nd Old Dominion Checker Association Virginia State Open at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Danville, VA.  He was recognized as the Virginia State Champion as the highest finishing Virginian, over Les Balderson who took 3rd place. Tournament records show OA being from Staunton, VA in the mid 70s and early 80s. He was born in Augusta County in the commonwealth of Virginia, grew up in this area and also ran a billiard hall in Staunton, the larger of two principal cities of the Staunton-Waynesboro micropolitan.  Mr. Morea, a bachelor, was a gentleman and a champion checker player who played many tournaments over his lifetime. I remember OA as an affable fellow, well traveled and entertaining with a story or joke. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace Mr. “O.A.”
